On recovery: Step 2 – Came to believe

We aren’t alone on this journey. Now that we have admitted our powerlessness, that our lives have become unmanageable, we take the next step in our recovery.

Step out of old thinking and behavior to make Step 2 work for you. It is the desire for a more joyful way of life that leads us to believe something new. We are reminded when we see the twinkle in the eyes of those who walk a path of recovery. We see that this is possible. We may not know what the future holds but we can be certain that up is the only way up from the bottom.

Coming to believe is an individual process. As Ayurveda and Yoga are based in direct experience, so, too, is the path of recovery. There is no need to reinvent the wheel, the steps and tools in this program work, but only when you work them for yourself.

The practices of Yoga and Ayurveda lead us to the God of our heart, the all knowing inner voice that is always present, supportive and there to guide. It’s a soft voice, easily covered by the lower ego that leads us into addiction.

Pranayama is a tool to develop mastery of the breath and our life force. With the breath we can master the mind, and with mastery of the mind we can guide our thoughts and actions. When steeped in raga, addiction, we are masters of control, manipulation and disguise. Now is the time to shed the masks we have used to cover fear, insecurity and resentments and come fully into trust. Trust of the process of life, the process of recovery, and the process of the flow of the universe.

Use this step to remember that you are not alone. All the strength you need is within. Take pause and breathe to remember who you are as eternal spirit.
